When working on the Postal Administrations project at SITA, I travelled several times to Montevideo to meet PUASP (Postal Union of Americas, Spain and Portugal) there. On one of these trips I was welcomed as a VIP at MVD airport. Here is the story.

You forgot to mention the well known QBH and QNL respectives off line codes for Beyrouth (created when I was nominated DR for Middle East based in Neuilly) and Neuilly( where was based the Africa regional DR office after Dakar and before Johanesburg -
Hello Jean-Pierre,
Yes interesting! The creation of these codes (of course I know them but did not think to mention their story) has a lot of stories attached to them. It has been easier for SITA to obtain the creation of 3 letter codes than to be allocated the exclusive use of a two alpha code. -
As commented by Jean-Pierre, sometimes codes have a story to tell us. The code for Geneva is GVA. Voltaire, the French philosopher lived in this city in the 18th century; but after some time he had to leave for Ferney-Voltaire, because he as a fan of theater he had plays frequently performed at his mansion , Les Délices in Geneva. But at that…[Read more]

Merci.

Il y a également eu un code Z pour les liaisons teletypes mais les communications étant plus sécurisées ce code n’a pratiquement pas été utilisé du moins à la SITA;
-
Pour utiliser…[Read more]

Have you ever heard of split routing? This technique was introduced in the DTN in the late 70’s to cope with the traffic increase. Herewith the copy of the original article I have published in SITA’s internal magazine after I had designed and had this technique implemented in the HLN. Copy of article by courtesy of Jean-Pierre Gaudard.
