Recollection: John Friend, LONDR

Another small human item that comes to my mind concerns the person who, at that time, held the function of LONDR, Mr John Friend, and who, when I joined SITA on 1 December 1969, was employed ( like the whole of the then London Centre operations and administrative staff) by British European Airways – B.E.A. They were mainly situated at Lampton House, a few km to the east of Heathrow Airport. John had joined BEA and thence SITA from the British Royal Air force ( R.A.F.), where he had served as an officer for quite a number of years in Iraq. John was a most agreeable person, with very wide interests, and he was much liked by the London staff. He took his retirement at the end of the 1970s decade, following the appointment of another manager with British Airways origins, Peter Groves, whom many of the more recent SITA staff will have known well.
